Alan Hooker published his renowned cookbook in 1971 in homage to the beautiful and delicious herbs and spices he would use daily to enrich his cooking at The Ranch House. Winner of the R.T. French Taste-maker's Award for best paperback cookbook of 1972, Herb Cookery includes some 200 creative recipes and instructions on the fundamental use of herbs in cooking.
"Because I am fundamentally a cook, I have focused my attention on the use rather than the theory of herbs in cooking." - Alan Hooker, page 6.
The Ranch House continues to honor Alan Hooker's original recipes today. Each night, Ranch House chefs prepare the Alan Hooker Special, a modern take on one of Alan's recipes. Most recently, the Hooker Special was a braised short rib over garlic mashed potatoes, sauteed mushrooms, Swiss chard, lemon aioli and a pineapple chipotle glaze. Call to hear daily specials.
